Our Partner Parish
Chelmsford Diocese has had Partnership Links with the four Dioceses of
Kirinyaga, Embu, Mbeere and Meru in Kenya (Mount Kenya region) since 1978.
St Mary’s has a Partnership with the Church of the Good Shepherd, Muchunguri,
in the Diocese of Mbeere. A visit was made in October 2006 by five members
of the parish to witness the Consecration of their new church building.
Most of the parishioners are subsistence farmers in a semi-arid area, and
have to walk five miles to the nearest dispensary. We made many new friends
and were deeply impressed by the vitality of the worship and the speed with
which the church is growing.
We are helping them to build a dispensary for the local community. We
remember the Vicar, Revd Jenard Nthiga, and parishioners in our prayers and
also keep in contact by email, phone and text messages. We hope they will
visit our parish in late 2007.
